Stereotypes: This is Why

by Katie
(Ohio)

Redheads act the way they do because they are treated like they have an excuse to act that way, and like they're different. Perhaps dedicating an entire website to how redheads need to be treated and raised differently is part of why they feel like outcasts.

Plus, why is Marquis De Lafayette NOT in your list of famous redheads??? You can thank him for both the victories of the American and French revolution. He was extremely close to General Washington, our first president as an independent nation. I think you're all insane.

Hi Katie: Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your opinion on this topic.

I hope you understand the reason for the website -- it's not to raise kids with red hair any differently or give them excuses to act a certain way...its more of a support group to parents/kids, a celebration of who they are, some positive input. As a mom of 2 redheads myself and getting emails from other parents of redheads as well as redheads themselves, I can't tell you how many share stories about enduring teasing and ridicule. --- yes, treated as outcasts just because of hair color! Now THAT is insane!! -- Anyone who's been on the receiving end of ridicule knows how that feels (have you?), so I want to add some positive encouragement.

You then go on to praise the redhead Marquis De Lafayette and I agree...this man sacrificed a lot for a country he believed in. I was unaware of him and will add him to my Famous Leaders, so thank you for mentioning him.

Appreciate your comments and hope you too appreciate how special you are, regardless of hair color!
