Stereotypes: Only after....

by Bess
(Texas)

I am 47 and have spent my entire life being told that I have a different temperament than a blond or brunette due to the red color of my hair... Who wouldn't after being told something insensitive, stupid or down-right prejudiced for the 100,000,000,000 time? With the population of natural redheads on the Earth from 2% to 5%, we are the only group of people that it is "OK" to racially stereotype. Don't believe me? Watch how we (redheads)are portrayed in television commercials...or in movies or on tv!

I agree with you

Reply by Deb at RR: Hi Bess, and thanks for passing along your thoughts on this. Sounds like you certainly have had to deal with plenty of comments over the years! I agree with you that redheads are usually portrayed in a negative way in films and TV...(I notice they are usually the local nut, evil villain, or local weirdo). As a mom of redheads, it makes me angry because I know how wonderful they can be! Thanks for sharing and please visit again...
