Redheads as a "fetish"

I'm a 20-year-old female with very red hair that has been so all my life. I've come into contact with a few (like two) males who really find my red hair "sexy", but it seems to me to be treated as more of a fetish than just average attraction. I also heard recently on the radio that only 8% of the male population prefers women with red hair, which is a little distressing! (In case you were wondering, males tended to prefer brunettes over blondes but the 92% was split much more evenly.)
