Ginger Pride Walk Held in Rome, Georgia, USA! On August 13, 2011, Broad Street was full of mostly red-haired individuals marching in a parade celebrating ginger hair! According to the Rome News-Tribune, the leader, James Schroeder, wanted to start a Walk because in recent years there have been fewer fun/silly events in Rome and wanted to do something to just make people laugh, not too serious and don't get offended. Other marchers also wanted to highlight the serious side of redheads being teased and bullied.
On March 17, 2012, Saturday, Saint Patrick's Day, a great crowd of gingers gathered to embrace their red roots for the 2nd annual Ginger Pride Walk. In Schroeder’s personal experiences, he said he has found that the best way to overcome bullying and negativity associated with gingers is to laugh at it. But while last year’s Ginger Pride Walk had maybe 20 marchers, Schroeder was not expecting the shocking turnout of more than 70 gingers and ginger-supporters. "I tried to contact as many people as I could," he said. "I got on Twitter and Facebook....Last year was just kind of a funny, like ‘Haha, this is going to be silly; let’s do this,’ and people actually showed up, and it was a surprise," he said. "We said, ‘Why not do it again?’ This is the perfect day." (Read my interview with parade founder, James! )

Redheads and More Redheads Day This event was held Saturday, July 17, 2010 in Sammamish, Washington, USA. The creator was photographer Anne Lindsay, who wanted to go for a Guinness World Record and succeeded! - On that day, there was the "largest gathering of people with natural red hair." According to Anne's website, "Upon Guinness World Records' official review our final count is 890 Natural Redheads. All redheads had to be natural and they all had to have a photo either sent prior to the event or were photographed individually at the event."
Unfortunately, Anne has closed the organization and will not be able to continue the redhead event in the future.
Redhead Roundup and Photo Contest
April 2 and 3rd, 2011. Held in Lincoln City, Oregon. Apparently was a big annual event years past and they are bringing it back, so hoping the redhead event will be continuing.
Ginger Ride
Bicycling event occurring in June in Portland, Oregon. Co-founders Jessica Vredenburg and Benjamin Adrian have seen the fun bicycle event grow from 6 people in 2009 to well over 200 people in 3 years! The Third Annual Ginger Ride was Saturday, June 11, 2011 -- a part of Portland, Oregon's 2-week 'Pedalpalooza' of biking fun. The Ginger Ride was not just for natural redheads but also for 'ginger supporters' wearing red wigs and bald spots spray-painted to celebrate Red! Hope it continues!
Gingerfest 2011 on Saturday, March 12, 2011, in Dublin, Ireland. Sponsored by Unicef.
Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland 2011 The weekend of August 20, 2011, over 500 ginger-haired people gathered to party and raise funds for cancer research. The parents of Joleen and Denis Cronin, who run Cronin's Pub, held the first convention last summer. It began just as a joke but has grown into light-hearted fun to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. Natural redheads and non-redheads showed up for the fun.
Hug a Redhead Day Facebook group started a few years ago in response to the negative "Kick a Ginger Day" in 2008. Here's a link to the Facebook page.
Heart a Ginga Day (formerly "Hug a Ginga Day") This nationwide New Zealand event was Friday, 27 May 2011. Encouraged people not to just hug but show appreciation and love to gingers (redheads) of all ages.
