More soccer fouls called on the redhead?

I'm beginning to believe that my son (age 10) gets singled out everywhere because he's the one that everyone can identify quickly in a bunch. It's a particular problem with soccer. He's a great player but disproportionately gets called for fouls more than other (equally aggressive) players.

So we are planning on doing an experiment and dyeing his hair brown for a game to see if he has fewer fouls called. I will hate to see his gorgeous red hair colored any other color but we'll make sure that it's a wash out/temporary color.

Has anyone else seen this?

I think she's right.

Where other kids would go unnoticed everyone's eyes are on the redhead. I have a 1 year old son and I can't even go to Wal-mart without being stopped constantly. Even strangers want to touch his hair. Everyone's eyes follow him and people that don't stop me talk and point him out to the people they're with. Fortunately, he's well behaved but people would notice it and remember it if he weren't because they're always watching. Mostly I feel complimented but sometimes it's tiring and I think what about when he gets older? He'll not be able to just blend into the background when he wants. I have to admit that I notice redheads more because I love them!

More visible target?

Reply by Deb at RR: Hi Debbie - thanks for writing in with your interesting observation! This specific kind of 'attention' has not been mentioned on the site, but of course similar situations of being singled out and unwanted attention come up all the time on the site by visitors who write in. I personally think he is getting singled out because he's more visible. (kind of like the someone driving a bright red or yellow car) Certainly not fair to your son!

It will be interesting to hear the results of your 'experiment' so please let us know okay? You can just "Comment" on your original submission to the site. I'm also going to post this question on my "Chatterbox" page and see if anyone comments or has had similar experiences as well. Best of luck with the future games! Keep in touch on this please.
