Makeup Tips for Redheads
--- TO WEAR IT OR NOT TO WEAR IT ---
THAT's THE QUESTION !
(Here's a few makeup tips just in case)

HEY! The FUN part of being a girl is to try out makeup and experiment.
I certainly did and my red heads did too!
Wearing makeup can be very SIMPLE:
Show off your unique fair skin by just enhancing your complexion with a bit of moisturizer, sunscreen, mascara and light eye makeup and/or blush and lip gloss....
The beauty of red heads to me though is the wonderful variety of skin tones, hair shades, eye colors, .... For instance, just in my family:
- One of my redheads has -- dark brown eyes, dark eyelashes and eyebrows, freckles, and red hair
- The other redhead has -- very blue eyes, light blonde/red eyelashes and eyebrows, freckles, and slightly lighter red hair
.... So, they have to choose makeup to suit their own hair/skin coloring and their comfort level.....It's all a matter of personal taste. Of course they each have their own makeup tips too!
What about YOU?

-- MAKEUP TIP -- FIGURE OUT YOUR FACE'S SKIN TYPE!
Is your skin oily, dry, sensitive?
CLICK HERE to read about what skin types there are for your face.
Once you know your skin type, then it's easier to set up a good daily skin care routine (plus know what cosmetics are best). This is an important step in having healthy skin. Cleansing each morning and evening, sun protection each morning, and good moisturizers are a must.
Healthy skin is one of those basic makeup tips you may not even think about. (See my page link on general Skin Care Tips.

-- MAKEUP TIP -- DECIDE WHAT AGE TO START
So, WHAT AGE TO START WEARING MAKEUP? TEEN MAKEUP -- all a matter of opinion....!

-- MAKEUP TIP -- FIND HEALTHY MAKEUP
I suggest you do find makeup that is non-comedogenic (means it will not block pores or help cause pimples) and/or hypoallergenic (supposed to cause fewer allergic reactions).
Mineral makeup is popular right now for these reasons, plus they have a natural sunscreen because of their ingredients, probably SPF15 or more. It's made by grinding naturally occurring minerals and should have no dyes, perfumes, or chemicals like standard makeup. Many dermatologists recommend it because it is a nice alternative for sensitive skin. It goes on lightly and provides a natural appearance, if applied correctly. Some beauty experts feel it's perfect for redheads for these reasons. It's worth checking out. (I use it even with my dry mature skin but must moisturize!)

-- MAKEUP TIP -- SHOW THOSE FRECKLES
Of course there's the whole freckles issue and what to do with them. I say,
WHY COVER THEM UP?
They are not something to be ashamed of!
Plus to me it’s often obvious when someone has tried to cover up the freckles with makeup.....
so why not flaunt them? However, some redheads just don't feel comfortable leaving the house without the makeup on to camouflage them...it's a matter of personal comfort levels.
Fair freckled skin can be challenging when searching for the right foundations and makeup colors.

-- MAKEUP TIP -- NO COMPETITION
I suggest you just make sure your hair color doesn’t have to COMPETE with the makeup or clash;
In other words: Don't let your makeup be bolder than your hair!
BOTTOM LINE: You have to find skin products and cosmetics that work for YOUR specific skin and hair shades but you CAN find them.
Visit makeup counters for free samples, makeup parties, to get trial samples if possible. Plus you can pick up some great makeup tips as well.
Sometimes it just takes a LOT of experimentation to see what suits you, trying many different brands and shades. Not everyone agrees with another's choices either. One redhead's makeup may not work for another.
Redheads in my family vary from brown eyes to blue eyes, darker red hair to very light red hair, very freckled to only a few freckles.
Of course what works for you depends on your:
--specific hair shade (deep auburn, light strawberry blonde, bright fiery red, copper)
--eye color (blue, green, hazel, brown)
-- fairness of your complexion with or without freckles.

-- MAKEUP TIP -- COLORS AND SHADES
(1) FOUNDATION - used to even out your existing skin tone, not change it. And, you don’t HAVE to cover those gorgeous freckles you know! Embrace your pale skin features.
Sheer foundations are a good choice for some gals. Makeup for sensitive skin is often preferred by women with fair skin. Whatever you choose should match your current skin tone and type.
Many redheads prefer sheer foundations that look natural. The consensus seems to be that pink- or red-based foundations don’t make the most of your natural tone or look the best. Neutral or golden-based foundations are preferred but be careful not to go too orange. Depends on your skin undertones so you may have to just try them. Since fair skin has a higher skin cancer risk, a foundation with SPF 15 and above is a good idea.
(2) EYE MAKEUP – Daytime and nighttime looks can be SO different! Get an honest opinion from a friend or relative to see what looks best for the occasion and have fun trying different colors and shades.
Unfortunately, this does cost money. One way is to get your hands on the tiny samples of products (Mary Kay and others have these) and also visit cosmetics counters, plus try your friends’ and relatives’ stuff.
-- Eyeliner: Because some gingers have such light eyelashes they may seem nearly invisible, it helps a bit to use an eyeliner, preferably a more subtle light brown or dark brown. To me, using a very dark eyeliner like black is just too gothic and dramatic for the gentle earthy tones of redheads.
-- Eyebrows: Again, many redheads have light eyebrows that can almost be transparent, although this is not always the case depending upon your hair shade. Brushing your brows with a stiff brow brush (even with a bit of auburn or neutral taupe soft powder brushed and blended in) can define them a bit. Some gals use a very light shade eyebrow pencil. Just be careful not to overdo it so you don’t end up looking like a red-haired version of Groucho Marx.
-- Eye shadow: Most advice I’ve read says to shun pink and blue shades. I personally think it also depends on your eye color: brown, blue, green, hazel. You really should experiment with fun colors like the peaches, browns, emeralds, or shades of plum. It’s agreed that most redheads look great in the neutral tones. Some suggest honey, gold, bronzes, taupe, chestnut, russet, raisin, and bold bronzes. I also think blues, lilac, olive, and grays can look great.
-- Mascara: Again, because the lashes are often very light, choose a brownish shade. Look for a brand and applicator brush that doesn’t clump up but separates and defines the lashes you have. I personally feel that black mascara on a redhead is just too overpowering.
Want LONGER, THICKER eyelashes? -- Try some of the new mascaras fortified with vitamins and other natural ingredients that help reduce breakage and promote natural growth. The concept is that healthy lashes are strong and don't shed as quickly, giving them more time to lengthen and be lush.
(3) BLUSH: more natural and neutral palettes are worth trying, as they seem to go well. Some shades like toast or brick actually can look good by bringing out the ginger skin tone. Experiment with apricot and warm peachy shades, gold-based and gold corals. Warm earthy tones seem to flatter well and emphasize your natural tones. You just have to try some to see what works for you personally.
(4) LIPSTICKS: First, it’s a good idea to protect your lips with a product that has a sunscreen or sunblock. You’ll have to experiment with different shades to find what works, like most of us. Again, the neutral and natural shades look good but even deep lavenders and the correct red tones that are in the same color family as your hair can be striking. Lip GLOSSES are a big hit and really can emphasize your redhead traits.

-- MY BEST MAKEUP TIP --IT'S ABOUT WHAT'S INSIDE
It’s really not ALL about the makeup....
Like I've told my girls -- if you’re the most beautiful woman in the world with flawless hair and perfect makeup and clothes but are ‘ugly inside’ because of pride or a rotten heart, then it’s all for nothing! ...What makes you beautiful? -- when you are kind to someone, when you share and show love and mercy...that's beauty.
I tell my redhead daughters I think they look beautiful just as they are without makeup. They don’t believe me...But it’s true! YOU are beautiful inside and out because God made you.
As one redhead gal put it, it's really about embracing and loving
"your inner red head" -- and this is what shines through to people.
Walk tall and be proud of how God made you!
