Richard Naylor (born 1977). Red-haired English footballer. Defender and club captain for Leeds United. He's an experienced centre back, a strong tackler and effective in the air. Had previously played for Ipswich for 14 years, playing over 300 games.
Rod Laver (born 1938). This Australian redhead tennis player is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. This left-hander was ranked No.1 for 7 years straight (1964-1970) and in the 1960s twice won the Grand Slam in the same year (Wimbledon, US Open, Australian Open, French Open).
Chris Shelton (born 1980). American redhead Major League Baseball 1st baseman. He has played for the Detroit Tigers and also the Texas Rangers. He's also played in the minor leagues with the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros. While playing in Detroit, nicknames for this ginger-haired athlete included "Big Red" "Orange Crush" and even "Red Pop" which referred to the local Detroit-produced Faygo/Shasta beverage. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (born 1974). This tall famous athlete is a 3rd-generation driver in the sport of stock car racing. In voting by race fans, he's received NASCAR's most popular driver award 7 times straight. He's a team owner and businessman (JR Motorsports), was a presenter for the 2009 Country Music Awards, has appeared in music videos, authored a book 'Driver 8,' and been featured in numerous magazines. Bobby Kielty (born 1976) Flame-haired American Baseball outfielder. He's played with the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Socks, and New York Mets. During the 2005 baseball season, Kielty grew out his hair and earned the nickname "Ronny Mac" (and looked like McDonald's mascot, Ronald McDonald).
Svetlana Feofanova (born 1980) This pretty redhead athlete born in Moscow, Russia, is a former gymnast who turned to pole vaulting at age 17. This famous athlete has set multiple records and won medals in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games as well as various World Championships and Indoor Championships since 2001. (Thanks Alex P.)
Annika Becker (born 1910) This red-haired German pole vaulter is now retired but had competed in various European and World competitions from approximately 1997-2003.
Kris Radlinski (born 1976) This talented redhead athlete is a former English rugby league full-back. He retired from playing in 2006 after competing for his hometown club 'Wigan Warriors' during his career. In 2009 he became the Wigan General Manager.(Thanks to Alex P.)
Cord McCoy (born 1980) This smiling redhead is a professional saddle bronc rider and bull rider. This American athlete was born in Oklahoma. He's a 5-time International Professional Rodeo Association world champ. Cord and his brother Jet competed in CBS's Amazing Race (16 and 18) - famous for his positive attitude and smile, winning fans across the US.
Sonny Jurgensen (born 1934) This talented redhead was an American football quarterback. In 1983 this famous athlete was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles (1957-1963) and Washington Redskins (1964-1974). He later did some sports broadcasting and game analysis.
Matt Bonner (born 1980). This very tall American redhead (6 feet 10 inches) is a pro basketball player. His nickname is the "Red Rocket." This famous athlete has played with the National Basketball Association's San Antonio Spurs. (Thanks to Jon!)
Mike Bruesewitz American basketball player who has played for the University of Wisconson Badgers, in the Big Ten. This passionate player got attention during the 2010-2011 season not only because of his skill but especially because of his awesome "ginger fro." He also has tried corn rows for his hair, just to keep things interesting.
Saul Alvarez (born 1990) Talented up-and-coming Mexican boxer, who began boxing at age 13. In March 2011, the Mexican prodigy became the youngest world champion in super welterweight history, winning the World Boxing Council crown. Although his brothers and dad have dark hair, the freckled boxer and his mother have red hair. His boxing trainer nicknamed Alvarez "El Canelo" (Spanish for 'cinnamon').
Rose Napravnik (born 1988) A pretty and very competitive red-haired jockey who is up-and-coming in American thoroughbred horse racing. Getting her jockey license in 2005, and despite some major injuries, this young rider has made top earnings the past few years. One of the few female jockeys to have ever ridden in the Kentucky Derby (only 5 women have ever ridden in it), in the 2011 race she finished in 9th place aboard 'Pants on Fire' - the best finish for a woman in the Derby's history. Robert Malseed This redhead Irish athlete from County Mayo, Ireland, specializes in uphill mountain running, and is a member of the Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA). He describes himself on his Twitter profile as "former England, Northern Ireland athlete, now running for Ireland. I compete like my Ma's steaks - tough and not to be taken lightly."
