Jon Montgomery (born 1979)The 5-foot 9-inch redhead Canadian won an Olympic Gold medal in men's skeleton in Vancouver 2010. He was born in Manitoba, Canada. His hobbies include ice hockey, baseball, golf, snowboarding, and surfing. He attended Northwood University in the United States. When not training, he's a sales consultant and automotive auctioneer.
Clara Hughes (born 1972) Pretty red-haired Canadian Olympic athlete. Born in Winnipeg, she is a speed skater and cyclist, winning multiple awards and medals for both sports, in addition to winning Olympic medals in both the Summer and Winter Games! She was a commentator for CBS sports during the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. Plus, she's a humanitarian, encouraging sports with disadvantaged youth. This famous athlete was honored to be the Flag Bearer for Canada in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics where she won a bronze medal in the 5000 meter race. Was awarded the Canadian 'Order of Manitoba' (OM) and 'Officer of the Order of Canada' (OC)
Seth McClung (born 1981). Tall redhead American baseball pitcher whose nickname is "Big Red." He comes from a sports-minded family, with his father and brothers all athletes. He was a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as a starting pitcher, but as of 2010 he pitches for the Florida Marlins baseball team.
Johnny O'Connell (born 1962). Record-breaking redhead American race car driver. Considered one of the most versatile/talented drivers in North America. This famous athlete has raced professionally since 1987, beginning with single-seater sports cars like Corvettes, and winning multiple victories including being the 1st American drive to earn 4 victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Has been described as "fast, funny, and fearless" ...plus was even in a 2007 Super Bowl ad by Chevy 'Ain't We Got Love.'
Billy Bremner (1942-1997) This colorful redhead famous athlete was a talented Scottish professional footballer. He was the popular captain of the Leeds United team (1960s-1970s), since voted their greatest player ever and his statue is outside Elland Road. He later managed the Doncaster Rovers, & Leeds for a short time, and then was a columnist, speaker. He was inducted into the Football League 100 Legends, English Football Hall of Fame, and Scottish Football Hall of Fame. There's a song about him -- 'The Ballad of Billy Bremner' plus a verse in the club song 'Glory Glory Leeds United':
Little Billy Bremner is the captain of the crew; For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two; His hair is red and fuzzy and his body's black and blue'; But Leeds go marching on.

Gary Rohan (1991) Upcoming and talented red-haired Australian rules footballer, who recently joined the Sydney Swans Football Club (Australian Football League, or AFL). He apparently almost gave up playing, being told by scouts he'd never make it to the AFL. His mom urged him on, and in May 2010 his perseverance and hard work paid off -- he was Sydney's top draft pick and scheduled to make his AFL debut on Mother's Day. Hurray for redheads who never give up (and moms)!
Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) (born 1978) This imposing 6-foot 6-inch, 272-pound redhead professional wrestler was born in Dublin, Ireland. He played a bit of rugby and Gaelic football in his earlier years, later discovering wrestling. He developed his own wrestling character, choosing an Irish warrior. He currently wrestles with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) under his 'ring name' of Sheamus, but previously was with Irish Whip Wrestling, All Star Wrestling, and made other British appearances, Florida Championship Wrestling. This famous athlete's Ring names have included: Sheamus, Sheamus O'Shaunessy, Galldubh. Nicknames include: "The Celtic Warrior" "S.O.S" "The Irish Curse." I admit I'm not a wrestling WWE fan, but had to include him!
Mark McGwire (born 1963). Nicknamed "Big Mac," this redhead former Major League Baseball player and first baseman became famous for breaking home run records. In 1998 this famous athlete broke Roger Maris' home run record for a single season and hit 70 that year, although amid rumors of steroid use. He played with the Oakland Athletics; he then joined the St. Louis Cardinals, and in 2010 he became the Cardinals' hitting coach. After years of rumors, in 2010 he admitted to using performance-enhancing steroids on and off during his career, including when he broke Maris' home run record. Mark was part of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team. He also voiced for an episode of the TV show 'The Simpsons,' playing himself.
Paul Scholes (born 1974). Red-haired English footballer, who the fans have nicknamed the 'Ginger Prince' and 'Ginger Maestro.' This talented midfielder has stayed with one club for his entire professional career ('Red Devils') and plays for Manchester United with over 600 appearances. He's participated on the England national team 1997-2004, World Cup in 1998 and 2002, and UEFA Euro 2000 and 2004. Because of prowess in scoring goals, range in passing, technique and creativity, this famous athlete is considered by some as one of the greatest midfielders of his time. Jan Ullrich (born 1973) Having retired in 2007, this red-haired famous athlete was born in East Germany and is a former professional bicycle road racer. He was the first German to win the grueling 'Tour de France' in 1997, later also placing very well in 2004 and 2005 'Tour' races. He won gold and silver medals in the Sydney Summer Olympics, plus has won other prestigious races in Europe. Many consider Jan to have been one of the top time-trial riders in bicycling.
Amber Neben (born 1975) Pretty, petite (5' 4"), redhead American bicycle road racer. She was active in sports as a long-distance runner and soccer player but later turning to and excelling in bicycling, specifically road racing. She missed a spot on the 2004 Olympic team by just a few seconds, but later competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She's won the 2002 Gracia Tour, the 2003 Tour du Montreal, the Tour de l'Aude in 2005 and 2006, and was World TT Champion in 2008. She continues to excel at the sport, competing in national and international events. A great inspiration for women athletes (and redheads!).
Tom Watson (born 1949). Redhead American professional golfer who was one of the top-ranked players in the world during the 1970s and 1980s, playing the PGA Tour and then Champions Tour. At his peak, this famous athlete won 8 major championships and was one of the top money makers in golf. An inspiration at 60 years of age, he continues to play, recently appearing in the 2009 Open Championship and 2010 British Open.
Miguel Breault-Mallette (born 1985?) This Canadian left-handed fencer is hard to miss. The redhead teen recently competed in the 'Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games' in August in the cadet male sabre events. During this time, he'd only visited the hair salon once a year for the last 3 years as part of a charity drive for cancer research. To fit in all of his flame-colored locks, he needs to use a fencing mask 2 sizes bigger! That red mane of hair reminds me of a fierce red lion.
Red Pollard (1909-1981) This redhead Canadian horse racing jockey rode in America but is most famous for riding the thoroughbred race horse 'Seabiscuit' from 1936 to 1940, winning 18 times in 30 rides. His family came from Ireland. He also was famous because of the terrible injuries he sustained while horse racing, at a time when jockeys rarely wore helmets or protective gear. Even though he was taller than most jockeys at 5 feet 7 inches, this famous athlete persevered despite his height and his injuries. Actor Tobey Maguire portrayed Red Pollard in the 2003 film 'Seabiscuit.'
Heather Moyse (born 1978). This redhead Canadian athlete competes in rubgy, soccer, track and field, and bobsledding. On the international level, she has represented Canada in bobsledding in top events, even winning medals in the 2010 Winter Olympics. In women's rugby, she is considered among the best in the world. This famous athlete is a member of the Canadian national team and plans to appear in the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup. She also has a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto. (Read her quote...)
