Family of Four.....All Red Hair!

by M Watson
(Texas, United States)

My husband and I both have red hair. We weren't quite sure what to expect when we were pregnant with our daughter, but she was born a beautiful strawberry blond. Our second baby proved to be a boy with a darker more carroty red. I love being a family of reds. We sure do spend a lot on sunscreen!!! All of us have blue eyes, too. We all freckle, as well, my husband least of all.

We feel so blessed and wouldn't change a thing about our looks or the coloring of our kids. Being a little rare and different is a true blessing! We should all embrace our differences as blessings from God. Remember, your kid's self-esteem will come from you. I didn't love my looks as a kid. My mom and dad were tan and blond or brunette. Because my husband and I love and accept the way we look, our kids see their red hair and fair complexion as an asset.

From Deb at RR: Just wanted to let you know I've chosen your wonderful family photo for my special "Featured Foto" spot on my Home Page for part of November. Thanks again for telling your story!

Beautiful Family
by: Ginny

Lucky you! What a beautiful family. I'm sure you turn heads wherever you go. Ever since I had my redheaded girl fourteen years ago, I can't help admiring all the redheads that I see. I'm glad that you have been able to give your children a healthy self-esteem from the get go. My daughter struggled with looking different than her parents and the other kids. At one point she even asked me to dye my hair red so that we would "look like we belonged together". I dye my hair all the time anyway, so red it was! Somewhere around the fourth grade she embraced her gorgeous hair and hasn't looked back! God bless you and your lovely family!

Hi M: Wow -- great photo! You have such a beautiful family and love the hair colors!! I had to call my husband in to see your photo and we both smiled!! Yes I can imagine people doing a double-take looking at you all when you're together like this.

We just chuckle at how God must love surprising us. As redheads yourselves, I guess you expect you might have redheads too -- just never know do we??!!

You give wonderful advice about 'embracing our differences as blessings from God' -- agree totally and so many kids just never hear that.

By the way, would love to hear from your 2 men in the family from a 'guy perspective.' I have a page dedicated to the redhead guys (see NavBar "The Male Room" or go directly -- http://www.raising-redheads.com/manpower.html). They can share by going to my "Contact Me" page.

Thanks for visiting and come back soon!
