Deep Auburn Redhead Gone Strawberry Blonde

by Suzanne
(Seoul, South Korea)

Now age 51, I grew up in the 1960s and 70s as a dark auburn straight/slightly wavy redhead with fair skin and light green eyes. My porcelain skin acquired freckles and multiple sunburns while I grew up. Now I stay completely out of the sun, or at least as much as possible. I use really good sunblock now and my skin is in nice condition.

In year 2000, my husband and I moved to Northern Italy. Within the first two years I began highlighting my hair. I have never returned to a full red color, but have enjoyed having a head of "less remarkable" hair. People tell me my hair looks very natural this way. I got so tired of people asking me if my hair was real (as a redhead), but since going more blonde, no one asks. Also, now I can wear almost every color, but generally think earth tones still look the best on me.

Changing hair colors
by: Deb

Reply by Deb at RR: Hi Suzanne. You sound lovely and thanks for writing in. You certainly have had some hair color changes and sounds like a bit of travel as well! (small world -- we also lived in S. Korea many years ago -- see "About Me" page) You give some good advice about staying out of the sun as well and hair care tips. Appreciate your input! How did people in different countries treat you with the red hair? :)
