Cartoon characters were traditionally drawn by hand but now the trend is computer-generated cartoons. These great cartoons appear in animated films or TV series, but many also have their own comic books and/or also appear in comic strips.
There are actually quite a few characters that are red heads (gingers) with red hair or red fur. Unfortunately, due to strict copyrights on their images, the actual cartoon character may not be shown, however.

Little Bill (series)
Andrew Mulligan is a redhead, freckled little boy who is Little Bill’s best friend on TV show for kids called 'Little Bill'. It’s based on book series ‘Little Bill’ by Bill Cosby about 5-year-old Bill and his family/friends. Seen on Noggin TV network.
Little Einsteins (series)
Leo - Leader of the ’Little Einsteins’ by Playhouse Disney. He has green eyes, glasses, flies a red Rocket, and has red hair. Great show for kids ages 2-5 years old.
Madeline is a flame-haired orphan based on the kids' books by author by Ludwig Bemelman. . The books were adapted by DIC Entertainment/Cinar initially in 1989 for an HBO TV special that was nominated for an Emmy Award. Later ABC Family adapted several of the other books. A few years later, ABC Family aired the 'Madeline' cartoon series, some showing on 'The Disney Channels' and then new episodes called 'The New Adventures of Madeline' and being nominated for Emmy again for outstanding children's program.
PBS Kids animated TV series about a talking dog named ‘Martha’ (who could talk after eating alphabet soup) and her redhead human owner, Helen. Martha the does does have little red ears. Based on kids' book by author Susan Meddaugh. The ginger cartoon characters include: -- Helen - A 10-year-old girl with short wavy red hair who takes care of her talking dog, Martha. -- Baby Jake - A 2-year-old redheaded boy who is Helen’s little brother ("Jakey") -- Daniel Lorraine - Helen’s dad has red hair, drives a bus -- Skits - red-furred dog and member of Helen’s family, younger than Martha the dog and does not speak.
Mushu - A red dragon from the animated Disney movie ’Mulan’ and it’s sequel ’Mulan II’.
My Friends Tigger & Pooh (series)
Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney. A computer-animated TV series based on the Winnie-the-Pooh stories by A.A. Milne. The cartoon series adds a few new characters: a redhead girl and her dog. -- Tigger - bouncy, happy red-orange striped tiger -- Darby - cute 6-year-old redhead girl
Panchito Pistoles (movie)
Red-cropped rooster who sings and plays guitar. Seen in Disney 1994 animated movie that has both live-action and animation.
Peter Pan (movie)
In the 1953 animated movie by Disney Studios, Peter Pan is a wonderful redhead. Several of the children as well as a few pirates also have red hair. Great family film! The movie is based on the book by J.M.Barrie. (Apparently Barrie never described Peter's hair color.)
Phineas and Ferb (series)
A Disney Channel animated TV series about 2 step-brothers. Cartoon characters with red hair are: -- Phineas Flynn - One of 2 step-brothers who has a red tuft of hair on his triangular face, age 9 years. His step-brother from Britain is Ferb Fletcher. -- Linda Flynn - The redhead mother -- Candace - The redhead 15-year-old sister
Pinoccho is a 1940 American animated film produced by Walt Disney, based on author Carlo Collodi's story "The Adventures of Pinocchio." Lampwick appears in this Disney classic as a tall and slender character with red hair and buckteeth. He is a bit of an older 'bad boy' from the streets who befriends Pinocchio on their way to Pleasure Island, where the boys begin to turn into donkeys. The literary version from Collodi's book was named Candlewick.
The Family Guy (series)
American animated TV series on Fox Broadcasting about the dysfunctional Griffins family that parodies American pop culture. Cartoon characters with red hair include: Lois Griffin - the mom of the Griffin family, married to Peter, and has 3 children (Stewie, Chris, Meg) who has a New York accent, voiced by Alex Borstein. Home on the Range (movie)
A full-length animated Disney film (2004) about 3 cows searching for a criminal cattle rustler and trying to save their farm. The villain is a mean redhead named 'Alameda Slim' voiced by actor Randy Quaid.
