Carrot top, blue, freckles, ginger, blood nut

by RdKmy
(Australia)

Amazing how many nicknames there are for redheads.

I have to admit I have most of the redhead stereotype characteristics. I'd rather say I was passionate rather than fiery tempered but really they mean the same thing. Fiery, passionate, sensual, opinionated -- they are all about having strong feelings and emotions.

I honestly think there is something in our genetics that makes us very sensitive to our environment. The sensitivity to pain is an interesting observation. I remember when I was having my children and in hospitals for operations the doctors and nurses raised their eyebrows about my hair colour, mentioning to each other about the redhead 'bleeders'. Great -- something else we have to deal with as a redhead.

I have to say I love the colour of my hair and I'm fascinated with my nephew's gorgeous red hair and feel a real bond with him. He stands out not only by his colour but his amazing over-the-top personality. It took me a while to be happy about my hair colour. I hated the attention, nicknames and freckles as a kid. But now I love my hair -- it makes me stand out in the crowd.

Hi RdKmy there in Australia! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic and also the nicknames. (I'll add a few of these to my "Nicknames" page I didn't have).

Your observations about the stereotypes are interesting and I do agree some redheads can be very passionate, strong-willed, and talented individuals. Your nephew sounds wonderful and I'm sure you'll be able to give him some good advice as he grows up since you've been there, done that. If he's old enough, please have him browse my site to encourage him!

I love hearing that you've grown to love your hair and who you are...guess it takes us all a while to get there, no matter how we look or our hair color....But I DO think redheads have a harder time finally reaching that point of loving who they are just because of the attention and teasing, especially if no one is around to encourage them.

By the way, your story about being in the hospital and comments by the medical personnel about your hair being connected to 'bleeding' was interesting as well! A new one for me... hmmmm.

Thanks for sharing and please visit again!!
