A rare moment when they love each other

by Jennifer
(Bucks County, PA)

I am not only the daughter of a redhead; I am a granddaughter, sister, wife, mother and cousin of a redhead. More people have red hair in my family than not. I was a very dark auburn as a child but as I got older it got darker. I knew my whole life I would have at least a red headed boy. I then also got a redheaded girl!

Response to Sam and Jennifer
by: sami

Hey Sam, I'm responding on your comment "how cute." I'm the only one with red hair in my family too well... my grandma says she used to have red hair and the family says my little cousin has red hair but its more of a light brown. Anyway, my sister and brother say that I'm adopted also. I thought that was funny.

And to Jennifer, I know just how your daughter feels, after being in public and getting complements all the time you do learn to just smile and say thanks.

Hi Sam ~ How wonderful you love your red hair! How old are you? My son loves his red hair too. He says his job is to marry another redhead so they can have more redheads! He did research on how redheads will be extinct in 100 years and it really bothered him.

My daughter knows her hair is different as everyone always stops her to tell her how beautiful it is. She just says "Thank you" and goes on her way. She is though only 7!

How cute!

I'm actually the only one in my immediate family with red hair. I've got a cousin (or second cousin?) on my dad's side (whom I've never met) that has red hair, but that's it. My parents don't; grandparents on both sides don't; siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins don't. Just me. And it makes me feel very special. Even if my sister does claim that I'm adopted because of my hair.

It must be very cool to be in a family of mostly redheads. You could be like the Weasley family in "Harry Potter" or something!

By the way, your kids are very cute. Look at those freckles! Adorable. When I have kids, I hope they have red hair just like MEEE!!! :)

Heritage

My husband is Scottish. My father's mom was Irish and his Dad was Portuguese. My Mother's Mom was half Indonesian and half German and her Dad was Dutch. On both my Dad's and Mom's side there are redheads. What's funny is the redhead cousins didn't have redheads but the ones with brown hair all got the redheads like myself.

My husband's sister has red hair and it's that color red that is just stunning! My husband also has two first cousins on his father's side with red hair. I am told the redhead on his mother's side was a great Aunt.

So far my children have had a positive experience with having red hair. My son did though get picked on when he was in Kindergarten about his freckles. My husband and I lost boy/girl twins and they both had red fuzz as well. I have always told my son that his freckles are angel kisses from his brother and sister.

Family of redheads!

Hi Jennifer:
Thanks for submitting the photo of your beautiful redheads. I think they're gorgeous... You are certainly a blessed lady with redheads surrounding you at every turn!! Wow. I'm sure there's a few stories to tell about experiences as a redhead in your family... Do you know your family's heritage/ancestry?

I had to chuckle at the title of your photo though -- the "rare moment" -- could relate with my own 2 redheads... Now fortunately, as grownups they are close and is such a blessing.

Thanks for sharing your story -- and please visit again!
