3/27/88 my beard was still red

by Harold "Hal" Wolverton
(Branchburg, NJ, USA)

me on 3/27/88

me on 3/27/88

The part of this pic. that I cropped out has my Mom with what she calls auburn hair. I use this part to show folks that my beard really was red/rust before it turned the white that it is now. Some day my hair will turn white and I'll look normal again.

According to my Mom both my grandfathers still had
red hair when they died.

It is just a variation on what you already have but Mom's Dad was always called "Pink." It was even embroidered on his firehouse jacket. I guess he didn't like his given name much, "Clarence". My mother was always "Little Red" and
her older sister was "Big Red". Those are the only coloring based nicknames we had on either side of my family, that I know of.

As a little kid playing in my grandparents' neighborhood it was always kind of strange. One of the adult neighbors that we didn't know would look at us and say "you're one of the ______kids, aren't you ?" And they always had the right name. It shocked us at the time. We didn't understand that we looked so unique that everybody with a few blocks could guess who we were just be looking at us.

The date in the title should match the date underneath. Both should be 3/27/88.

Note from Deb: -- will fix it for you... Thanks again, Hal!

Wonderful beard!

Thanks Hal for submitting your photo...great beard! Obviously that red hair gene is in the family and it's great to be able to pull out the old photos to remember how we 'used to look' -- I'll post your beard photo on my "Red Beards" page as well... Thanks for sharing with us...appreciate your contribution!
